3 gorges dam a disaster for China
The $20bn showpiece of Chinese engineering, involving huge amounts of earth moving around the infamous Yangtze river area, and costing thousands of people their homes could be a disaster, warns official Communist news agency Xinhua.
At first all went well, however massive landslips and ecological devastation is following the construction project like an albatross. New measures are desperately needed to prevent the whole hydro-electric scheme becoming a disaster. Land feuds are erupting as the populace attempt to reconstruct their lives following large scale evacuations.
