President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad gave stirring repostes to attempts to ridicule his government’s policies at a public meeting held at Columbia University yesterday. An opening salvo by Lee Bollinger, president, who issued the invitation, was rebuffed and ridiculed in turn by Ahmadinejad.
When asked about rights for gays in Iran, he replied that we don’t have homosexuals in Iran like you do in the US. When pushed about his wish to wipe Israel off the map, he replied that the people of Palestine, from whose land Israel was formed, should vote about the status of Israel. Ahmadinejad left early due to his busy schedule. On one hand it must have taken him some spirit to accept the invitation to speak at Columbia, knowing the response he would receive from a belligerent US media. (Republicans should not forget how they happily allowed IRA terrorists, who were busy butchering innocent UK civilians, not only a platform in the US, but money too, in the past).
