SNP leader Alex Salmond used his speech at the SNP conference yesterday to once again, in the words of firebrand George Galloway, create a partition between England and Scotland. Since the discovery of North Sea oil, the SNP have been constantly trying to push secession from the UK, purely from the point of greed, which casts the SNP as an opportunist party with one policy only.
Salmond is in his position as leader of the Scottish Parliament due to a typical massive cock up by the Labour party, which can spend money like a benzedrined pools winner, but waste most of it. The way Labour behave you’d almost think they are in a conspiracy with Alex to breakup the UK. Apart from the fact that the SNP only rated about 40% of the vote, scarcely giving them a mandate for their flagship policy, many votes were lost and uncounted, which could well have given the Labour party the majority in the Scottish assembly, and not the SNP.
Alex Salmond is a canny guy, behaves like a bank manager, and has the charisma of an unreliable and rather mysterious uncle, who you would avoid to meet at all costs. The large, dark watery eyes which gaze pleadingly hide something rather Vincent Price like, skeletons in the cupboard. The loathing Salmond feels for England, a foreign country to him, comes across in all his speeches.
I can’t leave this without a word about William Wallace and King Edward, Ironshanks. The North of England was pillaged and burnt by Scottish raiders during the first part of the last millennium. The reason Ironshanks invaded Scotland was to put down these murdering brigands, of which Wallace was one. It is laughable how so many Scots believed the tripe that was portrayed in the Mel Gibson movie Braveheart.
