So there are to be no culls (except in Wales), of Badgers to the disgust of farmers nationwide. but is the government right? And what about the practice of badger baiting in the countryside? In a pilot scheme in a hot spot where Bovine TB was spreading from Badgers to Cattle rapidly, scientists reported that a test cull resulted in a small drop in TB in cattle, but that it went back up again, AND, as badgers left after the cull hopped it into new locations, they set off new TB outbreaks in cattle elsewhere. Therefore the culls didn’t work. But of course they didn’t work because they were not nationwide. such a cull could only really be tested if conducted nationally.
But does anyone want to treat those nice black and white furry badgers, in such a way? Please no badger baiting. They are familiar to the countryside, though to be honest I’ve never seen one, have you?
