The smug TV adverts from private health insurance provider BUPA, promising one to one treatment in private hospitals in leafy spa type conditions only shows why it was right for the Labour party to set up the NHS.
What BUPA doesn’t tell you is 1) the exclusions to health treatment, and 2) the health insurance rates are only affordable when you are young and well.
What happens later when there is more risk that you will need hospital treatment is that BUPA increases your premiums exponentially until you can’t afford it. Then they will offer you a reduced package at a high price, then eventually, they chuck you out. That’s private health companies for you, and everytime one of these BUPA TV ads is shown, it’s a reminder of how the health system in the UK used to be pre 1940’s. Good health treatment for the few, the rest can go eat cake.
Do you agree that each showing of a BUPA TV advert only cements the case for the NHS to continue?
