Craig Venter - DNA evil

No wonder the Chinese don’t give a nickel for intellectual property rights or copyright laws when you have scientists like Craig Venter trying to claim ownership of DNA patents. Critics on Newsnight rightly labelled Venter as a ‘land grabber’, involved in a conspiracy to deny others the possibility of using human DNA technologies.

Those who suspect viruses like HIV came about from scientific experiments that went wrong, rather than a transfer from monkeys, will only have their suspicians confirmed by the antics of guys like Craig, who conduct ethically worrisome experiments in his quest to produce synthetic life forms.

If Craig Venter would only focus on something really useful, like fuel cells to replace the fossil fuelled transportation system then he would deserve some respect.

Venter’s thinking is very odd, his belief that ‘one cannot be a scientist and believe in the supernatural’ shows contempt for the limitations of human thought. We don’t even understand how human consciousness works, let alone the consequences of monkeying around with it. When I was going through my physics degree it became obvious that while science is useful as a tool for solving day by day issues, anything to do with the origins of matter and the supernatural is where science is woeful, and philosophy would be a better starting point. Craig, get someone to open your eyes please.
