As the State visit to the UK by the Saudi Royal family makes it’s way to the giant banquet, the apparatchiks beano, young and tender David Miliband has once again put his foot in it by being absent from the entire visit, deciding to spend time with his newly adopted child than bother with the rigours of working for a living.
This is not the first blunder in just a few weeks by the young and inexperienced Miliband. He has just had to row back after offering South Africa, amongst others, support for a seat on the UN security council, a decision which other countries, including friends of the UK, protested vociferously against.
His tetchy performances, approaching juvenile in quality, in the House of Commons foreign office questions and committee hearings, have been less than impressive. It is not just Miliband’s judgement which is lacking, the poor lad is clearly out of his depth particularly amongst hardened, experienced foreign ministers from other countries. His reassurances about the new European treaty are not reassuring.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s dilemma is that Miliband’s performance reflects the general dismal quality and gravitas of the Labour Party front bench. There is really a problem here. Last night his energy minister attempted to defend the paltry UK investment in Hydrogen fuel cell technologies, the way for transportation in the future, as previously outlined here on The Conspiracy Review. He seemed to know little about fuel cell research, which Japan and the USA have been investing billions in. And he’s the energy minister! Fossil fuelled engines need to be replaced with fuel cell powered engines, it’s going to happen, and yet again UK expertise will be used by foreign countries, again, instead of by the UK.
