Gordon Brown’s debt to Bill Clinton

PM Brown’s first Labour conference speech as leader has been blasted by critics as nothing more than cut and pasted segments of previous speeches given by Bill Clinton and Al Gore. Democrat advisor Bob Shrum has produced evidence that the major import and structure of Gordon Brown’s earnest address was taken hook line and sinker from old US presidential and contender speeches by US Democrats.

It’s rather alarming that Brown is resorting to Spin V2. when most hoped that era was over with the departure of Tony Blair. On BBC Newsnight yesterday, culture secretary Tessa Jowell was left to lamely (and unsuccessfully) explain to mild mannered inquisitor Jeremy Paxman why Tony Blair has only been mentioned once during the entire Labour party conference.
