How much was Kim Jong II paid?

In a historic meeting between the leaders of North and South Korea, President Roh Moo-hyun walked on foot over the demilitarized border between the two nations to meet playboy president Kim Jong II of the North for meetings in Pyongyang.

It is said that Kim Jong II is paid for such meetings, otherwise he wouldn’t show. It is interesting to speculate on what form the payment took. North Korea’s leader Kim behaved as though the senior party in the talks, surprising as the North, due to years of bad harvests and a Stalinist 1950’s style economy where the apparatchiks at the top do very well and the rest live below the poverty line, is destitute. The millions strong army takes most of the nations resources to prop up the leadership.

A final resolution of the unresolved conflict is years away, and may never be reached unless all food and fuel aid to North Korea is removed to force the issue.
