This is because just because there is a population someone assumes that a large enough one is somehow "overpopulation". As the vast majority of people in the UK aren't starving I would generally question the logic of whatever model was put together in order to claim that there isn't enough food for people in the UK. The idea that a supervolcano going off has anything to do with population levels in strikes me as strange.
