Iran making good progress with nuclear bomb program

They may say it’s for peaceful purposes, but Iran’s President Ahmadinejad has gleefully announced that Iran has three thousand centrifuges busily working to produce fissile material. True, it’s a long way from completing production of the bomb, but this landmark is another step to Iran’s goal of countering Israel’s advantage in being the only nuclear power in the Middle East.

Iran’s intentions can be seen as a conspiracy with Putin and Russia. Family man Pres Putin must be aware that Iran sits on several bucket fulls of oil, and the nuclear program has one clear purpose, to produce, by deception or otherwise, the bomb.

Western politicians are now getting serious about this, even the French realise that the point is going to come, and better dealt with sooner rather than later, when Iran’s nuclear program will have to be taken down. There is a world of difference between Israel, a democracy which endeavours to behave peaceably, having the bomb and Iran which has stated that to wipe Israel off the map would be a good idea.

Putin will doubtless use the current mid east nuclear crisis as a bargaining chip to prevent the US siting missile defence outposts in eastern Europe, but that is a reckless strategy if all that results is Israel bombing Iran, and a third Middle East conflict breaking out. The Israelis are smarting after their amateurish performance in the Lebanon conflict, BTW whatever happened to the two kidnapped Israeli soldiers by Hezbollah which were the cause of that invasion?
