Yes, it’s not only the US that has a sub-prime mortgage market. In the UK, house prices have risen steeply in recent years, mainly due to mass immigration, more single households and buy to rent companies snapping up swathes of new house building. The prices have become so unaffordable, even for a basic apartment, that lenders have been caught telling young couples to lie about their income so they can get mortgages to buy property.
This situation, rare before the Labour party came to power in 1997, is a direct result of government policy, and the sight of PM Gordon Brown smiling with satisfaction when he announces his policy to help couples buy a 25% or 50% stake in a house is grotesque.
It is all very well being an internationalist party, as the British Labour Party espouses, but to let in to the UK half a million migrants per year, and then to announce grand house building plans that won’t even house that number, is a disgrace and a betrayal of the British people.
