George W Bush has reiterated that he wants the US government to have more powers to spy on American and foreign nationals. The idea is to allow the CIA and NCS amongst other agencies to be able to eavesdrop on foreigners believed to have terrorist connections without the need to have warrants issued.
The US president made the remarks when he visited the NSA HQ. The new law is only intended to apply to subjects outside the US, if a US citizen is involved he must not be the subject of the enquiry. In practice if an American national is caught under the new law he can then be investigated under present US law with the aid of the evidence gleaned by the eavesdropping.
