Putin insists Ahmadinejad is nice guy

Salesman Vladimir Putin put on a brave show yesterday on his sales visit to Tehran and the Caspian sea region. It’s not good for Russia energy sales if the US builds pipelines through former Soviet countries bypassing Putin’s sales patch. So the more the US pushes for the oil pipelines to bring energy to the west, the more Putin will help the nuclear project in Iran.

Trouble is, you can’t make electricity from nuclear power without fissile material being manufactured as a by product. It is astoundingly obvious that Iran is going be armed with nuclear weapons within five years unless an accident happens. A large accident.

At present Iran’s nuclear program is delayed so there is a window to negotiate, but the invisible power brokers behind Ahmadinejad’s regime are absolutely hell bent on making the bomb. I wouldn’t give it much more than twelve months before there are a few big bangs in Iran.
