Syria will not attend Mid East peace conference

President Assad of Syria has stated that unless the Golan Heights, invaded by Israel in the 6 day war of 1967, are returned, Syria will not be present at the forthcoming Middle East peace meeting due to be held in November. 

Assad is also smarting after the Israeli raid to the north of Syria in September which left dozens dead. Israel claims a nuclear facility being setup up with the aid of North Korea was destroyed, Syria counter claims that only an empty building was flattened.

The point of the Middle East peace conference is to get a resolution to the Palestinian question, left unanswered since Israel was created by the UK, US and UN after the second world war. Until the Palestinians have their own country and justice is finally shown be done, perhaps including financial compensation to displaced Palestinians, there will be no peace in the Middle East.

Assad is promising to retaliate against Israel for their attack, the details of which both countries have been unusually reluctant to share.
