Tutankhamun to aid Egypt tourism

Tutankhamun - anything for a buckIn a bold move to up the ailing tourism industry in Egypt, King Tutankhamun, although deceased for more than three thousand years, has been called in to help. Displayed in a glass sarcophagus for all punters to see, King Tut will prove a mesmerising draw for the thousands who visit Egypt for the pyramids and pharoahs.

The history of the sphinx has been useful to archeologists because rain gullies that run down from the top of the sphinx show that rainfall  was abundant in old Egypt, (that is around 10000BC, the sphinx is far older than the 2500BC pyramids), before the climate became much dryer and the Nile river became so important with its annual flooding helping farming.

Although Tutankhamun died before he became an adult, the treasure haul from his burial site shows how much could have been retrieved from the more established pharoahs graves had tomb robbers not got in first. Evidence gleaned from a portable CT scanner does not support the conspiracy theory that Tutankhamun was murdered, he may have suffered a broken thigh and the subsequent infection was untreatable.

Luxor is set to become even more popular than sun and sand resort Sharm El Sheikh with the unveiling of King Tut’s body to the public. Tutankhamun’s face is fascinating but the body is not in so good condition, which antiquities expert Zahi Wahass blames on UK archeologist Howard Carter who, when he found the tomb, also attempted to strip the gold mask off the face. Millions of tourists are expected to visit Luxor following an upcoming  worldwide publicity drive, including stop offs in London and Dallas.
