Immigration to the UK numbers are being constantly revised by the government. The latest figures show around 1.5 million immigrants have moved to the UK since 1997. Few believe these figures, the actual number is far higher and probably runs into several millions. There is nothing wrong with migration and immigration per se, but when the movement is predominately one way it disturbs social cohesion, something the internationalist Labour party should worry about.
At present the UK is set on a Fiji course. This is when the host population becomes outnumbered by foreign migrants, who are given full domicile rights, as happened in Fiji. This results in the election of leaders whom the host population don’t want. This is a recipe for violence and instability. I’m not suggesting there is some sort of economic conspiracy here, but the UK government should be very careful not to allow a Fiji situation to develop.
The trouble is, is this Labour government capable of dealing with the immigration problem? Past evidence suggests that they are not. This lack of decisive action by Labour will let the Tories in through the back door at the next general election. The English don’t like to speak openly about immigration, but their feelings that immigration to the UK is out of control are strong.
