Vatican ‘not scared’ of Astronomy

As far as the Holy See is concerned, discoveries by Astronomers such as quasars and black holes only serve to underline wonder of the creator. The Vatican has invited  hundreds of top scientists for a conference which will examine the latest theories about the origin of the universe.

As difficult as defining in mathematical terms what infinity actually means, current models of how the universe began have always been undone by the basic problem of requiring a lump of matter to begin with, in order to explain where all the material to create the universe came from. And of course you must begin at time zero with nothing, no matter at all.

At present there is no way around this catch-22 conundrum. It could be postulated that equal quantities of matter and anti-matter formed the beginning of the universe, thereby neatly circumventing the no-matter at the start requirement, but this is a delusional argument as the matter and anti-matter would themselves have to occupy discrete spaces in the universe.
